Tips to ensure you're prepared

Based on currently available information and clinical expertise, older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Take the time to ensure you're prepared should you get sick.

  • Talk with your doctor to find out if you have enough medications and supplies. Make a list of your medical contacts, and the medication you take (how often, how much) should you get sick and need support.

  • Talk to your healthcare provider about whether your vaccinations are up-to-date. People older than 65 years, and those with many underlying conditions, such as those who are immunocompromised or with significant liver disease, are recommended to receive vaccinations against influenza and pneumococcal disease.

  • Stock up on groceries, pet food and cleaning products so you don’t have to shop often.

  • Wear a mask and carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you are outside of your home.

  • Identify which services are available to deliver food or medications to your home.

  • Identify family, friends or neighbours who can help with errands like prescription pick-up.
