Our Board of Directors
About BC Lung Foundation

At the BC Lung Foundation, we’re not just another nonprofit. We’re a passionate, purpose-driven organization with a 120-year legacy of advocacy, research, and patient support for people affected by lung disease — including asthma, COPD, and lung cancer.
BC Lung helps fund vital research to advance 21st-century medicine and other lung health initiatives, support lung patients and their caregivers through patient support groups, and educate British Columbians on how to safeguard their lung health by providing resources, webinars, and workshops.
BC Lung also advocates for policies that protect air quality, which affects children and youth, adults, and seniors. Our work directly touches the 1 in 5 British Columbians living with lung health challenges.

How Our Directors Support
Fundraisers & Committees

Tom DeSorcy
Tom’s goal has always been to be the local face of BC Lung when it comes to groups like ‘Healthy Communities’, a ‘Smoking Cessation’ committee or at local fundraisers for the Hope Fire Department stair climb team. Tom takes this same attitude outside the community when it comes to Government Relations where he represents local directors from across the province.
Volunteering & Discussions

Muff Hackett
“Events volunteering is always so much fun! Being part of the crew for The Ride and Stair Climb has meant closer connections to my fellow directors and the opportunity to meet and thank folks who are raising money for the Foundation. Random discussions with neighbours and friends around issues of air quality, radon exposure have allowed me to promote the BC Lung Foundation’s work, website and mandate in my community. For example a discussion with a
realtor who knew of radon, but didn’t know any details gave the opportunity to give them the BC Lung tools to discuss with others in their office.”
Carter’s Project & Workshops

Sharon Korol
As part of Carter’s Project, Sharon had the opportunity to participate in two workshops in the community of Gold River. Sharon went to the Gold River school and taught the students how to make DIY air purifiers with a box fan, tape and filter. “It was heart warming to see how excited the students were to participate and learn about air quality in their community”, said Sharon. That evening BC Lung had a town hall meeting where people from the community participated in a workshop to make air purifiers for their homes. “It was really interesting to assist the participants and hear their own stories about what a difference this could make in their lives. The education portion of the evening really made an impact on the community.”
