Thanks to all who submitted a video to our Smoke-Free Generation Student Video Contest!

We received 31 amazing entries from 9 different schools. Our judges had a tough decision!

Congratulations to our first place winner Eowyn Hennessey, a grade 12 student from Lord Byng Secondary.

And to our 2nd place winner Gavin Law, a grade 10 student from McMath Secondary.

The Fine Print

1. Eligibility:

  • Age Range: Open to students grade 8 to 12
  • Location: Open to students from British Columbia
  • Individual or Team Entries: Students can submit individually or as part of a team (maximum of 2 people per team).

2. Submission Guidelines:

  • Video Length: 30 seconds to 2 minutes (excluding credits).
  • Video Format: Video submitted via Youtube link on our submission form
  • Language: The video must be in English or include English subtitles if in another language.
  • Submission Deadline: May 25, 2026
  • How to Submit: Submit your video via a Youtube link via the submission form. Include your full name, age, and a brief description of the message or idea behind your video in the submission form.

3. Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity: How unique and engaging is the video? Are you using creative storytelling, humor, or compelling visuals?
  • Message Clarity: How clearly does the video convey your message of why you want to live a smoke-free life?
  • Production Quality: The overall quality of the video, including sound, visuals, and editing.
  • Impact: How likely is it that the video will inspire other young people to make positive choices and avoid smoking or vaping?
  • Originality: The video should be 100% original and created by the student.

4. Prizes:

1st Place:

  • Grand Prize: $1000 scholarship towards the student, and $500 towards the student’s school
  • Your video featured on our website and social media pages.

2nd Place:

  • $250 scholarship towards the student
  • Your video featured on our website and social media pages.

5. Terms & Conditions:

  • Video Ownership: By submitting a video, participants agree that the BC Lung Foundation may use their video for promotional purposes, including on social media, websites, or at events. Full credits will be given.
  • Content Guidelines: Videos must not contain inappropriate language or visuals. No explicit content or smoking-related imagery.
  • Copyright: All videos must be original. Any copyrighted material (music, footage) used in the video must be properly licensed or free for commercial use.
  • Parental Consent: Students under 18 must have parental consent to participate in the contest and provide their contact information. Parental consent is provided via the submission form.
  • The BC Lung Foundation holds the right to all decisions regarding the contest.
